Marlowe Kana Volume 1 eBook Joe Peacock Rowena Yow
The future is dark, weird, annoying, and I'm happy about it! This book is amazing. I'm a 90's sci fi nerd, and I don't know how he does it, but somehow the author blended the weird wide world of 90s sci fi in with a more modern reading, and it works. It doesn't feel dated, but it does, it doesn't feel nostalgic, but it does. Think of an alternate universe where 90s sci fi won out, but with today's diatribe that everything MUST be social, for better or worse. Could it actually be that Mr. Peacock has penned retro futurism for the very day we are living in? Is that even a thing? It should be, and I declare you can find it here. The characters in this book are great. When I am reading dialogue I can see them very vividly, and see them living and breathing, and thinking. I honestly haven't experienced that in a while.
One more thing, I would be remiss if I didn't compare this book to one of my favorite authors, Piers Anthony. If you are a Piers Anthony fan, this is a must buy without thinking sort of situation.

Marlowe Kana Volume 1 eBook Joe Peacock Rowena Yow Reviews
I've read almost everything by Mr. Peacock since back in his blog/forum days, and can read and appreciate their voice as readily as I can Stephen King's. I've not read much of his fiction, and I'm really thrilled he's moved in this direction. Cyberpunk is a favorite genre, and this feels immediately familiar in the "20 minutes from now" way, and like with him, the characters immediately step forward as distinct, in depth and motivated.
I'm hoping and anticipating that the text and approach itself will expand outward into the memeplex/meta-textual/hypertext style that the story and approach seem to imply - Vol. 1 very much feels like it's planting the seed-virus - I'm looking forward to seeing how it grows/causes havoc.
This is shaping up to be a great story. It has an energetic plot and great characters that make me want to keep reading. This was a compelling introduction to MK's world. I burned through the first volume. I'm ready to dig into the next one.
This has been my unofficial reintroduction to all things cyberpunk. Now, as I literally live through everything the genre predicted years ago, I appreciate everything books like Marlowe have to say about the world.
The story really is a beautiful escape from and simultaneous acknowledgement of all the madness in the world right now. Love it!
If Ghost in the Shell and Neal Stephenson's novels are things that catch your interest, you owe it to yourself to check out cyberpunk expert Joe Peacock's first scifi novel.
Long time fan of sci-fi, cyberpunk, and writer Joe Peacock! This is the first book I have actually bothered reading on my kindle and boy did I enjoy it. The first volume set a great pace by combining highly amusing character interactions with vignettes of life in the futuristic Atlanta. It's a world where ratings are everything and war is entertainment, the badass 'MK' gripped me from the start and didn't let go. Joe Peacock, much like Marlowe, may not realize his own strength! I absolutely can't wait to read more!
This one surprised me. It reminded me of how I felt when I first read Neuromancer years ago with action that is reminiscent of Snow Crash. Like Neuromancer, the technology is familiar and mostly not unbelievable, most of the world is controlled by corporations and is falling apart or being put back together depending on how you look at it. The action in volume 1 has been nonstop and makes me tingle the way I did when Hero Protagonist was going on rampage on the floating island in Snowcrash. The only thing I found disappointing was that volume 2 isn't out yet; I almost gave it 4 stars for that, but I want him to write more and it's hard to beat free.
If William Gibson had any literary heirs -- the family tree would include Warren Ellis, Jonathan Hickman, and now... Joe Peacock, a powerful youngster in a genre that could use a jolt to the system. Peacock writes with expediency and para-military precision. His characters don't just leap off of the page -- they strap on jetpacks -- and blast out of it. If you are into Black Mirror, Bruce Sterling, or the cyberpunk genre, this IS the book you need to have in your life.
